Plans for Chapter Elections
As we said repeatedly in past articles about what our officers to, we will have elections this year. This is a support organization. Many of our members are here to be supported. Others, fewer in number, are here to provide support. That is as it should be. But we need more members to take up the supporting role. The current chapter officers have been doing their jobs for too long.
The chapter has four elected officers: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. We described what they do in four articles in last year’s chapter newsletters. Now we need to choose somebody new to fill each of those elected positions.
Here’s the plan:
- As noted in the masthead on page 2, the nominating committee is headed by Rita and Jack Beerman. Nominations are now open. If you know of anybody willing and able to take any of the four officer positions, please contact Jack or Rita at 732-714-1040.
- The last day for nominations will be February 12. At that time nominations will be closed.
- Ballots with the names of all the nominees are expected to be mailed to members on March 5. Family members will get two ballots, one for each member. For each of the four positions, members can vote for one of the candidates listed on the ballot or can write in a person’s name. We hope you will ascertain that any person whose name you write in is willing and able to serve.
- Ballots will be returned by mail to the address designated on the ballot. There will be no voting at chapter meetings. Chapter meetings are held in different places at different times and we don’t expect everybody to be at any particular meeting.
- Ballots must be received by April 9 to be counted. The results will be announced at the regular chapter meeting at JSUMC on April 15. The April meeting will be on the third Thursday because a luncheon for hospital volunteers is scheduled for the fourth Thursday.
- To allow a transition period, formal installation of officers will take place at the regular June meeting at JSUMC on June 24.
May the best candidate win, as the saying goes. More to the point, let us hope that for each of the elected officer positions we have at least one willing and able candidate who has not already held an elected chapter office. We love what we do, but we can’t be expected to do it forever. We will lend our knowledge to our successors, we will stand as backup, but enough is enough!
